Mt. Zion Suburban Apartments
As a 221 (d)(3)MIR community, it's LMSA Section 8 contract makes assistance available to eligible very low-income elderly households in all 118 one-bedroom rental apartments. Each apartment is equipped with range, refrigerator, disposal and air-conditioning. Most units are carpeted. All utilities are included in the rent. Residents of each building enjoy having their own coin-operated laundry facilities and community room. A bus shelter is provided for the convenience of those residents who use the city bus.
Mt. Zion Suburban Apartments provides a bus for monthly trips to local shopping malls and grocery shopping. Local health organizations offer free screening and medical services at the property periodically throughout the year.
Bus trips in recent years have taken residents to Brown County to enjoy the fall foliage, to Monument Circle for lighting of the Christmas tree, and to other places of interest. Card and board games, as well as Bible Study are but a few of the other activities in the community rooms. Garden plots are available at the back of the community for those wishing to grow their own vegetables or flowers.
The highlight of the year is the summer picnic, held in the shade of a huge canopy in the large grassy area between Mt. Zion Suburban's two buildings, that brings all residents, guests and staff together.
